My first WPPI expo
So I’m back from one of the biggest and most overwhelming weeks ever!
Last week, I was lucky enough to attend WPPI 2013 at the MGM Grand Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas and it was truly epic!
WPPI is the world’s biggest conference for wedding and portrait photographers and last year attracted 16, 000 people. It’s been on my To Do list for the past couple of years but up until now I’ve never had the chance to attend.
It was so well worth the wait! I was fortunate to attend classes and presentations by some of the biggest photographers in the industry including Jose Villa, Susan Stripling, Cliff Mautner, Zach and Jody Gray, Kevin Kubota, Jerry Ghionis, Davina Palik and Daniel Kudish, Melissa Jill, Roberto Valenzuela, Blair Phillips and many more. I was pleasantly surprised at how generous and transparent they were about their photographic careers, including their successes and failures. Their tips and advice were extremely helpful and I’m sure they will help make my business even better.
The icing on the cake was the massive trade-show that took up two giant ballrooms and was filled to the brim with camera and lighting equipment and business products. I was like a kid in a candy store and I must admit that my credit card may have got a bit of a workout;) The networking opportunities were also pretty awesome as was the exercise benefits (I swear just walking back and forth between my hotel room and the conference centre racked up a few kilometres every day).
I’m now back home in sunny Australia, but my mind is still buzzing with some great new ideas for my business. It’s going to be a lot of fun and hard work to implement them, but I’m looking forward to what’s ahead. But first, I think it’s time for a nap!
Crazy times at WPPI (excuse the dodgy iPhone pic).
